Your Role as a Funeral Attendant

This is a key role in the successful execution of providing 5-Star Customer Service to families through:

• Assist in preparing and working funeral services
• Setting up the chapel or church for the funeral service, as well as items that are particular to the service such as flowers, photo displays, memorabilia, or culturally specific items
• Loading of funeral vehicles with required equipment
• Transport of families to the service and/or graveside and to and from the home residence
• Welcoming families to the chapel for funeral or visitation services
• Handing out funeral service folders and providing seating guidance (ushering)
• Bringing the casket or urn into the chapel and guiding pallbearers in their roles
• Assisting Licensed Directors with daily tasks
• Care and upkeep of funeral home facilities, equipment, grounds and vehicles
• Working comfortably around, and occasionally coming in contact with, decedents
• Traveling across Calgary to work at various McInnis & Holloway locations
• Working a set schedule that includes weekends and some holidays
• Other duties as assigned 

What You Bring

• Completion of the Funeral Director diploma or enrollment in the program is considered an asset
• Professional, helpful, and caring demeanor
• Able to lift and carry up to 50 kg and move a casket
• Current Class 5 (non GDL) driver’s license with a driver’s abstract with six or less demerits
• Clean driving record and insured for a minimum of 3 years
• Excellent oral communication skills. A second language is considered an asset
• 5-Star customer service mindset
• Empathy, compassion, and patience
• Sensitivity to cultural practices
• A clear background check (Security Clearance)
• Availability to work all shifts as scheduled, including weekends and holidays with the ability to work past scheduled hours as required to meet the needs of the families we serve

Our progressive, purpose-built facility is designed to support excellence in care, allowing our Embalmers to focus on their craft in a professional, respectful, and team-oriented environment. With full operational support from Transfer Specialists, Dispatch, and on-site assistance, our Embalmers are set up for success every shift.

This full-time position follows a structured 2-week rotating schedule with an average of 76 hours per pay period.

What You’ll Do:

This role is central to ensuring the highest standards of care, dignity, and presentation for those entrusted to us. Success in this position requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and a deep respect for the families we serve. This is a unique opportunity to broaden your skill set, gain exposure across departments, and play a key role in supporting overall operations.

Position Duties:

·        Perform embalming, restorative work, and preparation of decedents in accordance with professional and regulatory standards

·        Apply cosmetics, dressing, and casketing to ensure a dignified and natural presentation

·        Maintain accurate documentation and case records in alignment with regulatory requirements

·        Coordinate daily workflow, prioritization, and case assignments within the Care Centre

·        Collaborate closely with Transfer Services, Dispatch, and Funeral Directors to ensure seamless operations

·        Maintain cleanliness, organization, and sanitation of the preparation areas and equipment

·        Adhere to all Occupational Health & Safety standards, including proper PPE use and infection control procedures

·        Support and collaborate with fellow Embalmers to maintain a safe, efficient, and respectful team environment

·        Support our Funeral Team every other Friday by actively participating in funeral activities

·        Other duties as assigned

What You Bring:

·        Licensed Embalmer in good standing with the Alberta Funeral Services Regulatory Board

·        Minimum 1 year of embalming experience preferred

·        Strong technical skills in embalming, restorative art, and decedent care

·        High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

·        Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple cases effectively

·        Professional, respectful, and team-oriented approach

·        Strong communication skills

·        Physical ability to safely lift, move, and handle decedents and equipment (up to 75 lbs) using appropriate tools and supports

·        Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and Google Docs

 Your Role as a Transfer Care Specialist

As part of our transfer team, you’ll deliver on our promise of 5-Star Customer Service to our families by:

• Receiving decedents from place of death and transferring them into our care with dignity and respect
• Caring for decedents, preparing them for transfer and using a stretcher for transport to safekeeping at our private facility 
• Delivering decedents’ caskets or urns to the place of service
• Driving in and around Calgary and surrounding area in a professional manner 
• Setting up for identification viewings or visitations 
• Deliver important, confidential documents to our funeral home locations 
• Deliver flower arrangements for services 
• Wash and clean transfer vehicles, and general upkeep and tidying of our Care Centre 
• Assist with funeral services as required 
• Other duties as assigned 

 What You Bring

• 5-Star customer service mindset
• Professional, kind, and caring demeanour with strong customer service skills and sensitive to cultural practices
• Current Class 5 (non GDL) drivers' license with a clean driving record (six or less demerits) and insured for a minimum of 3 years, along with a claims experience letter/statement from your insurance provider
• Be comfortable working with the deceased entrusted into our care and their grieving families
• Physically able to undertake the demands of the position – bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and able to lift and carry up to 75 kg and move a casket
• Flexible to work rotating 12-hour shift schedule
• Strong work ethic, reliable, punctual, honest, and able to work alone or in a team environment
• Strong attention to detail and effective problem-solving skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Comfortable with iPhone use and computers
• Be comfortable wearing the company uniform, PPE, and maintaining professional grooming standards as set forth by the company
• A clear background check (Security Clearance)

This position runs on a 4-days on, 4-days off schedule working 12-hour shifts.  The schedule rotates between 2 weeks of days, 7:00 am – 7:00 pm, and 2 weeks of nights, 7:00 pm – 7:00 am.
